- highly compacted fibre board - bulk density ca. 870-880 kg/m³

The technical expertise for producing HDF was the foundation on which Kronoply GmbH advanced to become Europe’s largest maker of laminate flooring.
The EN 316 standard describes MDF boards with a bulk density greater than 800 kg per cu.m as HDF.
Kronoply GmbH produces HDF boards in thicknesses from six to 12 mm. The bulk density of these special HDF boards is in range between 870 and 900 kg per cu.m.
The boards used as the subfloor for laminate need to be of very good quality. HDF boards from Kronoply GmbH meets this prerequisite with their uniform bulk density distribution and high mechanical strength. For example, the thickness swell value of the 8 mm HDF after a 24-hour soak is less than 10 per cent.
The use of resin-rich Scots pine improves the swell behaviour of HDF boards from Kronoply GmbH. As a member the German Society for Quality in Laminate Flooring, we know that the production of HDF subfloor materials must meet demanding requirements to ensure good-quality laminate flooring.
Only seamless process management with online monitoring (e.g. with the StenOgraph bulk density profile measuring system, made by GreCon) as it is practiced at KRONOPLY can keep product quality at a high level. Currently about 150,000 sq.m of HDF boards are processed into laminate flooring each day at the KRONOPLY plant.
